Let's face it...2020 has been a lousy year for flying and just about everything else.
Out here in the wilds of Arizona we have about had our fill of not flying with all the ungodly hot weather plus the COVID stuff around, our friends at the Arizona Pilots Association and Recreational Aviation Foundation asked us to dust off our plans for the old AYA fly-in that we hold in Payson every year and pull the trigger and hold another one.
On October 9-11 we are hosting a "*#&$ the Coronavirus" fly-in and air camping at Payson Regional Airport (KPAN) in the cool pines of Northern Arizona. On Saturday, lunch is on your own so bring a picnic lunch or the Crosswinds Cafe on the ramp is open. Saturday night, we will be holding our traditional Dutch oven potluck with everybody sharing their favorite camp food favorites. At 6, we have a real treat as our traditional sing along around the campfire will be hosted by "Six Gal N Hat", a local country/folk/bluegrass band consisting of Mom, her four daughters and her son. They are really talented and put on a heckuva show!
The Payson (KPAN) airport is located 49 NM or so Northeast of Phoenix at 5,000 ft. MSL (above all the desert heat and haze) in the cool, wooded pines of Northern Arizona. It has a nice, long paved runway, cheap AvGas, lots of free camping sites right off the runway, hot showers, flush toilets and fire pits with free firewood. All that, plus the million dollar views of the Mogollon Rim!
It's a great way to shrug off the "blahs" of this lousy year and start celebrating our freedom of flight. We have insured that all distancing and health protocols will be met while still having a good time with old friends.
Come join us!
