Event details
There will be a GOPA (AYA) fly in to Newport, NH, Parlin Field on June 19. This may be the last fly in before we can feel comfortable gathering inside an airport restaurant, but it allows us to maintain social distancing until enough people have been vaccinated, and everybody feels safe!
Bring your own lunch and beverages and BRING CHAIRS. There is no seating in the picnic area, so folding chairs are highly recommended.
At the end of the grass runway there is a small park next to a river and a covered bridge. It is a very picturesque spot where we have had GOPA (AYA) fly ins in the past. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, as there is only one picnic table, and we want to be sure to be 6 feet apart (except for family groups).
Most of us will want to land on the perpendicular 3400’ paved runway, as the turf runway is only 1981’ long with tall trees at the western end.
However, after landing you are invited to taxi to the west end of the turf runway. Stay on the center line and use your radio in case a Piper Cub decides to land on the grass. At the west end, where the little park is located, we are invited to park on the side of the runway, as long as we push our planes well back of the center line with your tail near the trees.
BE SURE to announce yourself when taxiing on the turf on the Unicom, 122.8.
Bring a picnic lunch and wear a protective mask when you are close to those not in your party. Please RSVP to give us an idea of the size of the gathering.
